Jack and the End of the World

Once upon a time there was a sixteen year old named Jack who lived with his mother in a much polluted and environmentally hazardous world. They were also extremely poor; all they had was a cow.

One morning, Jack’s mother told Jack to go to the market to sell the cow. Halfway there, Jack encountered an old man who held up a sign reading “The End is near!”

Jack went up to the old man and asked “What exactly is near the end?” and without hesitation the old man replied “Well, the end of my magic bean-selling, of course…I’m down to my very last one.” Jack was so curious about the magic bean that he decided to trade his cow for the very last one.

Jack took the bean and went back home. His mother was furious that Jack had traded the cow for one “magical” bean. She was so mad that she threw the bean out the window and into their backyard.

The next morning, Jack looked out his window and noticed a giant beanstalk. He went outside and started to climb it. Once he reached the top, he met a very friendly giant who told him that in three days, planet earth was going to die. “There will be many catastrophic events that will wipe out every living soul, and the only way to survive is if you stay with me” explained the giant. The giant also mentioned that he had limited space and could only take two people.

Jack was confused. Well, he knew that planet earth was slowly dying due to pollution, global warming, deforestation, overpopulation… but he didn’t know that the end of the world would be so soon.

He climbed back down and told his mother, who immediately began to pack all their necessities. Two days later they both climbed back up and on the third day they survived all the earthquakes, tsunamis, tornados, floods, droughts, hurricanes, volcanic eruptions, blizzards, and heat waves.

They didn’t live happily ever after since after all, their friends and family had died, but they were happy to have each other, and they were more than grateful for the magical bean.

Moral of the story: Start taking care of our planet because if it were to come to an end in three days, we wouldn’t have a magical beanstalk to save us.

The End
